How he asked.

Joe and I recently got engaged during our winter getaway in Barbados. The island is very near and dear to my heart since I’ve spent so much time over the years travelling there for winter holidays. It’s always felt like a home away from home, so to get engaged there on the island felt so comforting and extra special for me.

We woke up on the first morning of our vacation, made some coffee and took a stroll down to a quiet surf beach a few steps away from our villa in Freights Bay. After a few minutes of watching the surf roll in, Joe got down on one knee and popped the question. I was completely surprised and truly felt like I was floating on a cloud.

In a fit of excitement, we ran back upstairs, called our parents, and then spent the next three hours surfing trying to burn off some of our excited energy.

Where he proposed on Freights Bay in Christ Church, Barbados

One of the first decisions we made as a newly engaged couple was to keep this news to ourselves during most of the trip. As exciting as it is, getting engaged is actually extremely overwhelming and so it was so important for us to enjoy the moment for a few days before letting everyone in on our secret.

We plan to get married in the Summer of 2018 so while I have tons of time to plan, I can’t wait to put my 25 secret wedding Pinterest boards into action! Stay tuned for more details to come on the planning process.

No one actually cares about the proposal story they just want to see the ring.
